Houston Rodeo Star Trail of Fame

One of the biggest parties in downtown Houston, Texas every year is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Its 3 weeks long, sees over 2 million guests from over 50 countries and puts on the world’s biggest rodeo, parade and western event. Over the years there have been many country music stars that have graced the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and many of them have left an indelible mark on the show, on Houston and on western life in general.

A number of years back the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo decided to honor some of the greats in country music with its Star Trail of Fame. Located outside of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s offices in Reliant Center the Star Trail of Fame pays tribute to the men and women who have made the west, and western values, some of the most well-known and widely followed on the planet.

There are currently eight country music superstars that are featured in the Star Trail of Fame. A gold plaque is there to commemorate them and the many years of incredible music and entertainment that they have brought to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as well as their achievements in the public sector.

One of the most well-known inductees to the Trail of Fame is country legend Gene Autry. He was the very first big name star that ever entertained at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and, when he rode into the arena on his magnificent horse Champion, he stole the hearts of Houstonians and never gave it back. Mr. Autry worked behind the scenes for years also and lent his special talents to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many of the shows in the early days. He was inducted into the Star Trail of Fame in the year 1996.

The fact is, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and country music are just a natural fit. The sound is particular to the west and has a long and storied history. The Stars Trail of Fame is just a way for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo organizers to give a little something back to the men who made them what they are today, the world’s biggest Rodeo.
