2014 Houston Rodeo Special Event Days
Every year the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ puts on several “Special Days” that celebrate heritage, community, culture and most of all the fun and excitement of the Rodeo and the importance of Agriculture in our society! The fact is, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is considered to be the biggest and best livestock show and Rodeo on the planet and is dedicated to preserving the morals and codes that built America. They’d like to think that everything they do is special but, on the days listed below, the events and themes are dear to the hearts of many and deserve a little bit more recognition.
One of the most interesting and important Special Days is Agriculture is for You or AG4U. America was built on many things and Agriculture is one of the cornerstones. On this special day the importance of agriculture in America and the agriculture industry are celebrated. The highlight of AG4U is ‘The Challenge’, an open, public forum that brings agriculture professionals, educators and leaders from the student community together to discuss what agriculture means to the world and the effect it has on our lives.
America’s Armed Forces are celebrated and remembered for the service and dedication that they give and the protection they provide to all Americans on Armed Forces Appreciation Day, a favorite at the Show. On this day being an American and proudly displaying the red, white and blue that signifies our great country are highly encouraged. Military personnel current and past, including our treasured veterans, are saluted on this special day.
Texas was built by pioneers of all races and colors and, on Black Heritage Day, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo spotlights the contributions that black pioneers made to the great State of Texas and the city of Houston in general. Special exhibits, various cultural festivities and vendors from the black community are the focus of this Special Day and indeed it is one of the most fun-filled and exciting of them all.
On Go Tejano Day our brothers and sisters from the South are the focus of celebration as the Rodeo pays tribute to Houston’s Hispanic heritage. There are too many festivities to count on this day including the Mariachi Invitational Finals, Fiesta Charra and the Rodeo Uncorked! Champion Wine Garden. Mexican folk music, traditional dance and horseback riding on Tejano Day are not to be missed!
Go Texan Day celebrates Texas traditions and is meant to build community awareness of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The challenge on Go Texan Day is to show your Texas pride and all schools, organizations, clubs and local businesses are invited to participate and do just that!
The Trailblazer Committee hosts Ladies Night Out to bring out the lovely ladies of Texas and attract a wider audience to the thrills of rodeo and the importance of the agriculture industry. Fun, food and surprises abound on this wonderful night.
Finally there’s Paint the Rodeo Pink Day in which the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo do their part to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. All who come on this special day are encouraged to wear pink in a show of support and there will be special events to raise money for this important charity.
So come one and come al to the Special Days at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Heck, come any time of the year because there’s always something exciting going on at the Show! See you real soon!
